Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) had informed us that the Government has announced that the natural gas price to the power sector will be increased from RM10.70/mmBTU to RM13.70/mmBTU effective from 1st June 2011. As a result of the gas price increase, TNB’s gas bill will increase by about RM1.5 billion per year. Due to the gas price increase, TNB will have to increase the electricity tariff to cover for the additional cost. The increase in natural gas price is based on the Government natural gas pricing mechanism in which the price is reviewed every six (6) months in tandem with the market price trend.

New electricity tariff rates will be in place effective from 1st June 2011. The following are several quick facts about the new electricity tariff:

New tariff to reflect the increase in gas price (i.e. from RM10.70 per mmBTU to RM13.70 per mmBTU) whilst the coal price is still assumed at USD85 per tonne (CIF) (i.e. the price used in March 2009 tariff adjustment).

The existing tariff rates will also be revised upwards to partly recover for the increase in electricity cost of supply since the last base tariff review in June 2006.

This tariff is effective from 1st June 2011 and supersedes the previous tariff schedule which was effective on 1st March 2009.

Electricity usage in Danau Murni comprised of lightings at car park building, common area, corridors, staircases, swimming pools and children playground. Due to tariff increase, our electricity bill in July 2011 was the highest at RM8,680. We were charged RM0.43 per kWh every month. For that reason, we have decided to reduce our electricity usage by switching off some of fluorescent lamps along our car park building and common area. We will continue to do this to save on future electricity cost. We heard a few complaints about dim parking area, however we believe that residents will understand our true motive for switching off the lamps. We will improve security patrolling in our compound for safety of residents and their belongings.
